SWE/WIE Mentorship Program

The SWE/WIE Mentorship Program is a joint effort between the Society of Women Engineers and the Women in Engineering department at the University of Maryland. It is a semester long program -- starting in Fall 2020 -- that has a goal of welcoming incoming freshmen womxn to the A. James Clark School of Engineering. Current SWE members serve as mentors for the freshmen signed up for the program and will help guide them through their first semester in engineering at UMD.

Discover Engineering

Discover Engineering is an event for high school students wanting to pursue a future in STEM. It is organized by the UMD chapter of SWE and takes place on Maryland Day. Previously, Discover Engineering has included hands-on experiences, student panels, and even an engineering themed escape room! Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Discover Engineering did not happen in spring 2020, however plans are being made to make the 2021 event even more exciting!

Connecting to Middle/High School Students

SWE is currently working on new and innovative ways to connect with middle and high school students and encourage them to pursue STEM! We plan on building relationships with those in schools in the UMD surrounding areas during the 2020-2021 academic year.
